Dear letters editor,
With the approval of the Rascals development in Southwater residents can see there is a different Council but still the same old failed housing policy.
The Lib Dems are continuing with the Tory policy of developing new estates with no homes for Social Rent, the only genuinely affordable homes anyone on the housing waiting list can access.
As the Lib Dems continue this failed housing strategy the Tories started in 2010, Horsham residents are asking themselves what is the point of a Lib Dem administration that simply mimics the same old failing Tory strategy.
Local residents voted in both the local and general elections for change and what they are getting is more of the same. Consistently ignoring the requirement to build homes for social rent is condemning many residents across the district to living precarious lives, as they sofa surf, live in overcrowded homes of multiple occupancy or in bed and breakfast accommodation.
Horsham needs a district council that puts the needs of the whole community first and not just a wealthy sub-set who are fortunate to be able to afford one of the new builds.
The Lib Dem manifesto said ‘Everyone always talks about national targets for new houses, but what really matters is whether they are affordable or not. We are committed to building 150 000 homes for social rent, and that’s the fastest way to bring down prices’
Our local MP says his District Plan has saved Horsham from Labour’s housing policy, all he has done is reinforce the Tory commitment not to solve the housing crisis for local people in Horsham, Billinghurst and Southwater.
In his acceptance speech he said ‘I feel an especial obligation to strive to be an MP for the whole community’ ….. time to step up to the mark Mr Milne.
