Protest for services 6th March 2020

West Sussex County Council (WSCC) needs more Labour Councillors. The Conservative councillors’ ideological support for the austerity agenda has resulted in reduced and poorly managed services, these are severely failing the residents that rely on them.

So many in our communities are experiencing real challenges during these difficult times. That’s why Labour Councillors on West Sussex County Council have consistently called the Tories to account for their waste and mismanagement. They consistently demand the good quality education, road and transport, social care and environmental services that are so important to our quality of life, particularly when times are tough.

Dirty streets, blocked drains, potholes, worn road signs and damaged pavements are a dangerous blight on our neighbourhoods. The deteriorating condition of our public realm shows how Tory mismanagement is failing the community.

Last winter the Tories tried to reduce road gritting, which could have greatly increased the risk of accident. Thankfully, our Labour Councillor Michael Jones exposed the disastrous impact this could have and forced a U-turn on this crass proposal. Labour will always stand up for public services and prioritise safety. We will strongly  oppose any attempt by the Tories to reduce winter road maintenance and  any cuts to services that would be detrimental to the public.

Labour‘s Councillors have stood up for the least advantaged and most vulnerable in our community. Labour led the campaign against the Tories’ cuts to funding for services for the homeless and cuts to funding to support older people in their homes. Labour will always fight for the vital services that our communities need.
