I have lived in Billingshurst since Feb 2020 just off the Marringdean Road having lived in 6 or 7 of the Horsham wards over the last 50 years with my wife and 2 (now) grown up children.
I joined the Labour Party in Dec 2019 as I wanted to be an active part in the change following the defeat in 2019 and to do what I can to get Labour candidates elected at all levels and ultimately facilitate the election of the next Labour Gov in 2024.
In Oct 2019 I became the Social Media Officer for Horsham CLP and have been actively working at getting the views of local people and carrying Horsham CLP’s message to constituents. I am a member of the West Sussex Labour Campaign group, the CLP Communications and Social Media Forum, and have signed the 4 ABCD Climate Change pledges from the South East Climate Alliance.
I am an active social media campaigner across the Horsham District and have found that there is considerable traction with Labour values and views across the district which are not currently reflected in elected representatives either in the HDC or in WSCC.
Over the past few months I have been keeping current with the activities of both HDC and WSCC and it is clear that both councils operate with disregard to the views and needs of the local communities be that Free School Meals, Children and Family Centres and Recycling Centres to name just some recent high profile issues that all sit with Tory dominated WSCC.
My main areas of concern currently relate to the £107m 3 year funding deficit WSCC have identified and the impact that will have on council tax and services across the board but particularly in Children and Young People Services, Highways and Recycling.
