Support the Campaign to Save Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre

We believe the Council are wrong not to include the Leisure Centre in the next round of leisure services tendering. By excluding it from the new contract, the Council is sign posting its intention to demolish the centre.
Horsham residents have been outraged by the Council’s proposal to demolish the centre and the campaign to save our centre has won a stay of execution. Instead of voting in favour of demolition at the last Council meeting in December the Council wobbled and have come up with an extension to the consultation process, which will now run until May. The Campaign must now maintain its momentum to ensure that the Council does not get its way.
We sent the following comments to the County Times in response to the voting in the Council Chamber on this important of local issue
‘Horsham Labour Party believe that after tonight’s vote both the Lib Dem opposition and Tory councillors have provided a green light for Horsham District Council to demolish Broadbridge Heath Leisure centre ,all be it the bulldozers have been kept at bay for a few months while the Council undertakes a further period of pretend consultation.’
‘Fast on the heels of the Lib Dems Leader’s exercise in sycophancy expressed in his comments to the County Times last week in respect of Robert Nye’s resignation, Cllr Holmes couldn’t even bring himself to vote against the Tories in the all important first amendment, which commits to withholding Broadbridge Heath Leisure centre from the tendering process.’
‘We need to ensure that the campaign to keep our leisure centre continues to grow so that the Council is made to recognise that the only option to consider, following the consultation process, is to retain and improve the facility we already have at Broadbridge Heath.’
Affordable housing campaign
We actively campaign for or against planning applications based on the level of affordable housing assigned to a particular application. We believe that all residents within Horsham District have a right to live in a decent and affordable home, and we are the only Party in Horsham to consistently speak against the West of Horsham Developments on the basis that the 2000 homes are set to deliver massive profits for developers and very few affordable homes for local residents.
We campaigned in favour of developing the derelict former day centre Bryce Lodge at the top of New Street, which will shortly deliver more than 40 affordable homes.
We are currently opposing two planning applications on the grounds that they will deliver no affordable housing. The Council claims it is short of brown field sites for affordable housing but when they become available more often than not the planning application comes forward with no affordable housing.

Horsham Labour Party oppose this development
The 2 sites that we are currently opposing are -
- Mid Sussex Area Professional Centre Clarence Road Horsham West Sussex RH13 5SQ. Application DC/11/1709 is for 48 market rate one and two bedroom retirement flats
- 60A Queen Street Horsham West Sussex RH13 5AD. Application DC/11/2136 is for a convenience store and 12 market rate flats
Both application can be viewed on Horsham Districts planning portal where you can view our objections and log your own…
